The Yesterday Machine (1963)

                                                            After the Comic:

Well, I was just trying to watch an old sci-fi movie. Next thing I know, somebody’s got a machine that can send people into yesterday! I’ve got enough trouble keeping up with today, so I’m leaving time travel to the professionals.

The Yesterday Machine is a wonderfully strange little 1963 black-and-white sci-fi movie about a Nazi scientist, a time machine, and a plan to change history. It runs about 78 minutes and has become one of those old public-domain movies people either love for its low-budget charm—or love complaining about. Internet Archive lists the film as Public Domain.

Things You Might Not Know

The Internet Archive copy has been online since 2010, and it has attracted more than 216,000 views, nearly 500 favorites, and plenty of opinions. That tells me somebody besides me is still watching these old clunkers!

What Viewers Are Saying

Brent Hale720 — “Interesting Classic Clunker”
Calls it a true drive-in-style “Classic Clunker” that moves along at a pretty good pace.

dmcbabb — “it's just bad- & not in a ‘good’ way”
This viewer wasn’t quite as forgiving and said the condition of the film made it difficult to watch.

theOCflash — “Funky”
Calls it a funky, fun movie—the sort of picture to put on at a party and just relax with.

Jonas205 — “Doreet is the Problem Not the movie”
Makes the point that odd little movies like this can be worth preserving right alongside celebrated classics.

Refined Taste — “Send In The Clowns”
Another reminder that this movie certainly knows how to get people talking!

So grab the popcorn and don't touch any mysterious switches. The Yesterday Machine is rolling next on Bootleg Comic Theater—and if I disappear into 1959, somebody come get me!
